This boy grew up in the Philippines. He used to sell vegetables alongside his mom in a smelly, filthy and noisy market place in Manila.
He sometimes slept there.
The person that took the photo also grew up where he did. She lived and played on a street that was as narrow as the road that would lead her to something better.
Overcoming hardships at times can be a cliché but for both of them, and for others around them, it was real.
They knew it wasn’t going to be easy but both would learn later on that they are better for it, and that it was worthwhile.
They have never forgotten where they came from and are very grateful for the opportunities they’ve received along the way.
They are now raising their daughter, less the hardships and with more smiles.
