Weekly Photo Challenge: Foreign

This was taken on New Year’s Eve 2011 in the Philippines. We had a barbeque with the neighborhood kids, she’s one of them.

We gave them sparklers. She lit hers, I’ve never seen nor experienced this kind of joy.

It was pure and it came from a place I’ve forgotten a long time ago and is now foreign to me, innocence.

  1. I lived in the Philippines for over 10 years, New Years could get hairy fast there. It’s completely different than how New Years is celebrated in the USA. The festivities of filipinos both in the US and the Philippines are centered around family, friends, and lots of food.

Thanks for sharing this photo, it brought back some memories for me!

  2. Christmas and New Year in the Philippines is like no other. Every time holiday comes, I get a bit depressed and sentimental knowing that the Philippines is having a month of “fiesta” and celebration everyday. No place like home!
